The War On Biblical Christianity

What’s behind the growing antagonism against biblical Christianity?  We seldom read or hear outward attacks on Christianity.  It is, however, being subtly attacked.  Before seeking an answer as to what is behind this antagonism, let’s consider some of the subtle ways in which Christianity is being attacked.

There is a concerted effort on the part of many to change the moral persuasion of people.  People are being persuaded to accept and practice behavior that is anti biblical.  One example is the increasing acceptance of what is often called “common law marriage.” Really it isn’t marriage at all.  Marriage is a legal contract.  Theirs is just a mutual agreement.  Marriage is “until death do us part.” Theirs is just “until we change our mind about it.”  The sanctity of marriage is being undermined.  The Bible says, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge” (Hebrews 13:4).

Another example is the attempt to make same sex marriage legal.  There are no laws against that kind of relationship. If they want to, they can just do it like all those in what is called a “common law marriage.” Why do they insist that it be made legal?  Could it be another way to flaunt the moral standards of biblical Christianity? In Romans 1:26-27 The Bible says, “For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:   And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.”

The teaching of evolution has done much to leave people in doubt about the teachings of the Bible.  It’s unfortunate that most public schools aren’t teaching children to think.  Years ago children were taught to think by means of debating classes.  That isn’t done any more.  Children are now taught to accept what they are told without asking questions.  If children were taught to think they would ask questions and see some of the gaping holes in the theory of evolution.  I tell children to ask their teacher why not all the monkeys evolved into humans. Rejecting the old creation story has left many thinking there is no divine law giver.  That leaves men free to make their own laws, i.e. situation ethics.  Genesis 1:1 is still the most logical explanation of origins.  “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”

Biblical Christianity is also being undermined by the widespread teaching of secularism (indifference to, or the exclusion of religion) and humanism (man can solve all his problems without the help of God).  Religion is being excluded from the schools leaving children thinking that they don’t need God.  The humanistic philosophy, that man doesn’t need God, leaves people asking”,  why bring God into it?”

Biblical Christianity is being undermined in other ways, but let’s get on to the question of what’s behind this antagonism against biblical Christianity.  If we were to ask many people what they have against biblical Christianity, no doubt many would say, “I don’t have anything against it.” Just because they haven’t rejected it as a whole, they think they can say they aren’t against it.  The truth is, they really haven’t accepted it either.  They are just indifferent.

If others were ask, “What do you have against Christianity?” they would ponder and not know what to say.  They may know they haven’t wholeheartedly accepted it, but they really don’t know why.  Satan is very subtle.  He isn’t making a direct attack on biblical Christianity.  He is undermining its basic moral precepts.  One by one, he is changing people’s attitude regarding right and wrong.  As time goes on people will come to the conclusion that they can’t practice Christianity because they don’t accept its moral precepts.  In other words, people are rejecting Christianity because of the limits it places on them.  They reject the Ten Commandments  because they don’t like the “Thou shalt nots.”

Our schools and colleges are turning out graduates who are woefully undereducated.  It’s not that they don’t have any education, but it’s inferior to that which our forefathers obtained; even those who had to study on their own.  Many of them were fluent in two or more languages.  They had read the classics, not just in literature, but also in the fields of history, economics and human relations.

Many of today’s young people are so infatuated by entertainment that they give little time to serious thoughts.  They are limited to a low level of education because they aren’t willing to make the necessary sacrifices to study and attain.  I suspect that colleges are limited in the level of attainment they can expect of their students.  To attract students, and be able to graduate them,  they have to lower the academic levels they expect of them.

Hedonism is another philosophy that discourages people from accepting Christianity.  It is a selfish way of life that puts pleasure as the highest good.  People aren’t being taught to think about the well being of those around them.  They are devoted to a trinity that consists of me, myself, and I.  Being a Christian would restrict their life style

We all live in society.  We need to learn what we are expected to contribute to our society.  Too many parents let their children have their way and aren’t teaching them to take the well being of others into consideration.  If we love God, we will also love those around us.  We will think of ways to contribute to their well being.  Since our young people aren’t being taught history, they are ignorant of the tremendous contribution that Christianity has made and continues to make to society.

Moral standards that are being rejected today are necessary for a well ordered, happy, peaceful society.  Not accepting the sanctity of marriage has left us with one out of three marriages ending in divorce with all the heart ache and confusion that causes. People today are suffering terrible psychological and emotional problems.  That wasn’t true back when most people were practicing biblical Christianity.

Shallow minds and those who live for self aren’t capable of understanding what we read in Proverbs 13:14-15.  “The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.  Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.” The righteous are not restricted by laws.  Romans 13:3-4 says, “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:  For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.”  Men sometimes make unjust laws, but the laws that God has given us are to make it possible for us to have liberty to live our lives in peace without being molested by law breakers.  God, our maker, loves us.  He gave us moral laws in order that we might enjoy life at its best.  The farther we get form Christianity, the more tyranny and corruption we see in society.  We need to be valiant in defending Christianity.  If not, we will lose, not only Christianity, but the liberty we have come to enjoy.  We are at war with the enemy.  To be sure, we don’t fight with guns, but it’s time that we take heed to Daniel 11:32.  “And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”

My friend, if you aren’t a child of God you are missing out on the good that God can do for you.  He can give you life more abundantly (John 10:10) and at the same time use you to contribute to the well being of those around you.  Don’t be deceived by those who are antagonistic to biblical Christianity.  They are suffering themselves and contributing to the moral decay of our society.
